I told myself that I would not respond to people commenting and sending email about my previous post. I failed to listen to myself. Here are 3 responses:
1. There should a blogging rule that anonymous commenting is allowed, but in the cosmic calculus of fairness any anonymous commenter owes the commentee 1 beer. Then everyone would be too happy to care. Or comment.
2. I am about to be lambasted as frivolous and irreverent in addition to orthodox/heretical/megalomaniacal. Please leave an anonymous comment about how I should be (with special reference to my personal failings) staying mindful of #1. You can PayPal me the $beer.
3. My brother, who perhaps has the gift of encouragement, offers the following words of reassurance: Just remember that whatever happens you are MICAH SNELL. You can give people some MEAN CHILLS, and then retreat to your SMALL NICHE, where you can call them some CHILL NAMES and exult in the CHAIN SMELL, and then soothe your soul by giving some LICHEN ALMS.
4. Oh, there were 4: Sarcasm is never suited to the blogosphere and should be avoided.

Well said.
1. you're such a rock star. you made T19. That makes you so famous.
2. the quote from your brother caused a spit take near to my ibook. This does not make me happy. I think some renumeration might be necessary. I take pay pal too.
3. looking forward to seeing you on the 8th, if you aren't so famous among common causers that you get another gig.
:)
Would be happy to send you $beer but don't do paypal. Illegal to send beer through the mail and it would end up not arriving cold enough in your diocese. If you have posted a real address - we'll send a money order.
Why do people write anonymous - because they can and sometimes things can be said more easily. For me/us, it's just plain easier than remembering all the dumb passwords. I have found, however, that those who complain the most about it are usually the ones who need it the most - they can't take criticism well in any circumstances. I hope this is not the case for you. You don't know me, and probably never will until we get to heaven. Who knows, maybe you'll end up being my bishop some day. But we are both in the Body of Christ.
You opened a Pandora's box unintentionally. But in doing so, you left questions unanswered. How you handle that is just one facet of your legacy as a priest, but more importantly as a Christian. I (Anon #1), as a fellow Christian, tried to offer you a way minister Christ in the situation. You don't have to agree or accept it. But it wasn't meant to beat you up, but as an encouragement. You, and the rest of us, have much to learn - no matter how old we are.
Anything written or said will more than likely be passed around. You, as a priest, need to guard your words, and the words (written and said)of others, even more carefully. Perhaps this is one of God's lessons for you in that. I know it reminded me. There are some people who run to others to complain - and not knowing all the facts, the situation becomes worse. I came directly here, to you.
Perhaps God will just calm the pond - we'll pray for that. But how you handle this and those vocal is only one facet of how your legacy as a priest will be defined. This is a learning moment. My hope is that you would see the high road and take it. In whatever you do, show that you are the man of integrity others claim. Word gets around. ;-) Obviously, there are people who know this about you already- the rest of us need to see it, too. Why? Because you aren't just a seminarian, or even a priest. You are a member of the Body of Christ, just as little ol' anonymous me is. What we do affects others.
I and my family will continue to pray for you. That the place God has for you will be forthcoming quickly. And that your ministry will grow and abound in His nurturing, love, mercy and grace. And that He will give you peace and comfort in the days ahead, because we all need it in the times that are coming. God bless you and be well.
Now where's that address......
